![]() And things will progress on the WIKI much more slowly. I ask because if I have to create a new thread each time.well, let's just say there will be a lot of threads. While I'm at it.is it recommended for me to ask a lot of (not necessarily related) questions in one thread, (since I'm doing it for the WIKI)? I also want to make sure it's not a DNS hostname.Īs I understand it, Static DHCP attempts to map an IP address/hand out a lease based on the "hostname", yes?Īlso, when you create a Static DHCP mapping, does DHCP always try to identify by the "Hostname" first, and then fall back on the MAC? Is it the other way around? Are these "Hostnames" visible on the network, or mostly only via Tomato/dhcpd/?Īnd if someone spoofs the "Hostname", I assume they can't get assigned the IP address for another machine, because the address is already mapped to a different MAC, or does that not matter. I assume that's more propelry called a DHCP Client Identifier? I'm just wondering because it's not labelled as such. ![]() The "Hostname" field in the Static DHCP menu. This is the first of what will probably be many, many posts to help me clarify concepts for my contributions to the WIKI.
